Memories of “Ms. P”

Yesterday as I sipped on my Starbuck’s coffee and ate my favorite thing to go with it, gracious thoughts about my friend “Ms P” entered into my mind. I met her around 2006. Most people I met that year were going through some crisis of one kind or another. She came to me for advice, or maybe just to talk. Talk she did. She was bright, funny, fun, and always fancy free. She was one of the only people I had ever met who truly had a child like spirit, vulnerable, trusting, and had a wild curiosity about so many things. She especially loved the spirituality I brought to her life. Ms P had a craving to know everything and anything I could tell her. Telling her was always fun and usually met with wide opened eyes and a jaw that enthusiastically dropped. She was a mix of sensitive spirit and wide eyed optimism wherever she went. I remember her as one of my greatest fans, if ministers could have fans. The only thing I …

“I WILL Restore You”, says the Lord.

Have you ever done some things that you have completely regretted; a poor decision that left you feeling shame and maybe some guilt as well? How about years and years of difficult issues that had been created because of one or several poor decisions? I know that I have! Aren’t you glad that God is one of restoration? In fact, He has a promise to repay and restore to us all of what the years have taken from us. Let’s take a look at Joel Chapter 2. Joel 2:25  “I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—     the great locust and the young locust,     the other locusts and the locust swarm— my great army that I sent among you.” What an awesome promise! What we sometimes fail to look at, though, is what comes before the promise. You see, there is a covenant condition that God had given to Israel and also to us when we seek out restoration. Let’s back up to verses 12 and 13. Joel 2:12-13 “Even now,” declares …

Do You Need to Be Set Free From a Controller?

Control is not the same as command. A person who is in command of their life is one who knows their boundaries and expresses them. A commanding person is like the general of their own life. That person knows what they want in life and knows what they don’t want, so they let others know what is acceptable and what is not. The commanding person stands at the gate of their life and they will allow those through the gate that will respect, honor, and value them as a person even if they disagree. This also means that if there are those who will not respect them as a person then the gate is shut. They might still love them, but their actions are not allowed through the gate. Yet, command never seeks to manipulate someone to do things their way in order to get through the gate. It loves people as they are as people, but does not accept their behavior. Control seeks to manipulate people to do things their way. It is a …

Seeking the Unseen

Human beings have a fascination with the unseen spirit world. We love to speculate on things that go bump in the night. Some like to flat out hunt down the unseen such as ghost hunters in hope to reveal some glimpse of the afterlife. We seek out angel sightings, and talk to the air in hope our loved ones are hearing our voice. Even more, we want to hear back or have some sort of witness that they are still with us. It brings us comfort. I get it. I lost my son and my heart always wants to believe he hears me and tries to show me that he does. Its a comfort thing. I know that God honors this and intervenes for me so I can be comforted through His Spirit. He loves to give glimpses of the spiritual world around us. Humans are completely intrigued by the unseen world. I don’t doubt there are mysteries that we have yet to uncover. If certain things bring us comfort than why not explore, right?  We need …
